Course Description: This focused class will introduce participants to fundamental cutting techniques used in everyday cooking. Participants will refine their grip, learn essential cuts for various ingredients, and reinforce safe and efficient practices. Participants are encouraged to bring their own knife earlier in the week for complimentary in-house sharpening. If you do not own sharp knives, a well-maintained knife will be provided for your use during the class.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this 90-minute class, participants will be able to:

* Demonstrate a confident and efficient knife grip

* Understand the applications of different basic cuts 

* Safely and efficiently prepare common vegetables

* Practice basic knife care and maintenance

 

Details: classes are held on Sundays from 4-6 pm, with approximately 90 minutes of active class time and 30 minutes of set-up, socializing, and shopping. Students will have 10% off all merchandise the evening of the class. Cost is $85 per person with a class size of 6. If you would like to book the whole class, or have a private lesson please get in touch! 

Classes are held at Tacoma Knife Sharpening & Mercantile at 502 South 11th Street, taught by Chef/Owner Stephen Gangl. 

We welcome cautious, culinary-curious kids age 13+ when taking the class alongside an adult. 

We will be set up to stand for the full 2 hours but can also conduct the class seated if requested, please let us know when you book the class!
